Cast Iron Steak

Date Night! Steak Night!

Steak Potatoes Spinach and Bacon

I like the idea of putting on my best shape-wear, dressing up in my closets' best, applying a full face of makeup, puckering up to a bold lip and going out to eat at a nice restaurant.

While I like that idea, I LOVE the idea of being at home, in comfortable clothes, watching a combination of Netflix, Cable TV and YouTube.

I am always looking for fun things me and my husband can do together, but I am not always a fan of getting dressed to leave the house.

One long YouTube night we must have watched 10 videos with recipes on how to make a delicious Cast Iron Steak. We are fans of cast iron cooking and rarely crave steak dishes, but watching so many videos, the next morning, when we woke up we knew we HAD to have steak!

We re-reviewed videos, took some notes and went out to secure the ingredients we needed. I am calling this:

Date Night Steak Night !

An easy recipe to follow and something you both can do together for date night!

Note: The measurement of ingredients are to my taste. Adjust seasonings to your taste. Let the universe guide you on the measurements!

Ingredients:

  • 1(lb) of Flank Steak (or steak of your choice)

  • 1 bag of Baby Potatoes

  • Spinach

  • Bacon

  • Butter

  • Fresh or minced garlic

  • Any seasonings of your choice (Salt, Garlic, Thyme for example)

  • Soy Sauce (optional for marinade)

Prep:

  • Place steak in a bowl

  • Add in 1/2 (cup) of soy sauce, 1 (tbsp) of minced garlic and 1/2 (tbsp) of thyme (optional) to a bowl

  • Let the steak marinade for at least 30 minutes before cooking

Baby Potato Work:

  • Heat up your cast iron

  • Cut potatoes into quarter pieces

  • Season potatoes to taste

  • Add 1 (tbsp) of butter to your cast iron

  • Add 1 (tsp) of minced garlic to your cast iron

  • Add in potatoes (sizzle sizzle)

  • Cook potatoes until golden brown and transfer to an oven safe dish

  • Place potatoes covered (with foil) in a low temp oven to keep warm

Steak Work:

  • Add in a little bit of butter (let the universe guide you on the measurement) to your cast iron

  • Add in the steak

  • Do not touch the steak (4 minutes)

  • Flip the steak after 4 minutes and you should have a nice crust

  • Baste your steak to keep it moist

  • Let the steak cook for an additional 4 to 5 minutes for medium (The steak temperate for medium is around 140 degrees)

  • Remove the steak from the heat and let it rest while you work on the spinach

  • It is important to not slice into your steak until it has had a chance to rest

  • Once the spinach is ready, the steak is ready for slicing

  • Once cooked, remove the bacon from the heat

  • Drain some of the excess bacon fat out of the pan

  • Add back in bacon and give it a mix to evenly distribute the bacon

Final Steps:

  • Now it's time for slicing and plating!
